CORFAC Congratulates Our 2020 Standards of Excellence Award Winners
CORFAC International is pleased to announce the winners of the 2020 Standards of Excellence Awards, which recognize individuals who exemplify excellence, integrity, dedication and participation in the CORFAC network.
Award winners were honored by CORFAC’s 2020 President Alan Joel, CCIM, of Joel and Granot Commercial Real Estate/CORFAC International in Atlanta, Georgia, during the organization’s 2020 Virtual Board of Directors meeting on September 10.
“One of the bonuses of being CORFAC President is working with great individuals from all over the world,” Joel said. “Being able to spend time with and working toward a common goal with these award winners has been a special honor and privilege. They are truly the heart and soul of CORFAC.” Award winner descriptions follow.
Charlie King MVP Award
Joe Latina of Patterson-Woods Commercial Properties/CORFAC International in Wilmington, Delaware, received the Charlie King MVP Award, which is bestowed to a member selected by CORFAC’s President to be the “most valuable player” over the past 12 months. The award was created in honor of CORFAC co-founder Charlie King Jr., for his devoted and exceptional service to the organization.
“I am truly humbled and honored to be named the 2020 recipient of the Charlie King Award,” Latina said. “It is no secret that 2020 has been a challenging year, but with strong leadership and an amazing staff, CORFAC has adapted and persevered. I look forward to the continued growth and prosperity of our organization into 2021 and for many years to come.”
Latina, who is currently serving as Vice President of the organization, has spearheaded numerous network-building initiatives. His role as past chairman of the organization’s Affiliation Development Committee led to the acquisition of several new member offices in key markets. He also helped to build CORFAC’s retail profile with an expanded presence at the International Council of Shopping Centers’ RECon event in recent years.
Olen Monsees Award
Scott Hensley, CCIM, SIOR, of Piedmont Properties of the Carolinas/CORFAC International in Charlotte, North Carolina, was recognized as this year’s Olen Monsees Award winner. Hensley has been a leader in expanding CORFAC’s market presence as chairman of the Affiliation Development Committee this year.
The Olen Monsees Award, which recognizes members who have provided exceptional service to the organization, is named in honor of Olen Monsees, a former President of Karbank Real Estate Company in Kansas City, Missouri. Olen was known for his integrity and ability to create win-win solutions, often going above and beyond the call of duty without being asked.
“I am humbled and grateful to be recognized by my fellow CORFAC members for the Olen Monsees Award,” Hensley said. “I was fortunate to know Olen well and considered him a friend who I enjoyed spending time with at conferences. For my fellow members to think I possess even a few of the great character traits of Olen is an honor.”
Thomas B. Hayes, Jr. Award
This year’s Thomas B. Hayes, Jr. Award was given to Frank Schulz, SIOR, of The Klabin Company/CORFAC International in Los Angeles, California. The award honors the late Tom Hayes, a Principal of Integrated Corporate Property Services/CORFAC International, known for his innovative use of new technologies to continually improve client service. Recipients of this award have distinguished themselves by sharing innovative and creative ideas relevant to commercial real estate brokerage.
“I am honored to receive such an award and I hope that my efforts will inspire others to think creatively, just as Tom did,” Schulz noted.
This year Frank has taken a creative and innovative approach in leading CORFAC’s Communications Committee initiatives, including expanding CORFAC’s brand into new media outlets and improving the CORFAC website.
Steven H. Podolsky International Member of the Year Award
Charlie Thompson, SIOR, RICS, of Farebrother/CORFAC International in London, England, is the recipient of the Steven H. Podolsky International Member of the Year Award. The award is named in honor of Steven H. Podolsky, SIOR, a founding member of CORFAC and chairman of the International Committee during a crucial re-building stage.
“I’m very honored to receive this prestigious award and proud to stand alongside its previous winners,” said Thompson. “Being chair of the International Committee has been an honor. Getting to work with so many members across the globe, who I now call friends, has been wonderful.”
